It all started with MRI<\/h1>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

MBST magnetic resonance therapy is the only treatment method in the world that uses the same physical principle as an MRI scanner, which is so valuable in diagnostics: magnetic resonance. In order to be able to use MRI therapeutically, the smaller and easier-to-use therapy devices were developed in interdisciplinary research work in co-operation with engineers, doctors and scientists. They makes it possible to generate magnetic resonance conditions with lower field strengths, eliminating many of the safety precautions required for MRI, while still targeting specific cells and tissue with a therapeutic approach.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

An interesting discovery<\/h3>

The journey of magnetic resonance therapy started with some unexpected findings. In the early days of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the technology was not totally efficient yet, so patients had to be examined several times. Patients with musculoskeletal issues who had multiple MRI scans frequently reported notable benefits. Finding no reason for this effect, it was at first thought to be placebo. <\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Investigating the phenomenon<\/h3>

To explore these effects further, a team of physicists, biologists and physicians began investigating in interdisplinary collaboration with universities. They discovered that it was likely the principle of magnetic resonance that cause these effects: the stimulation of hydrogen protons in the tissue of the body. This discovery marked the start of the development of the MBST\u00ae therapy systems over the next years.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

First practical application <\/h3>

The challenge was to generate the MR effect of the large, expensive MRI scanners in smaller, specialised, cost-effective devices: magnetic resonance designed for the targeted stimulation of specific cells and tissues. For 2 years, the first prototypes were tested in 5 specialist orthopaedic clinics. The very good treatment results made it worthwhile to take the next step in research and development. <\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Tissue-specific treatment <\/h3>

Different tissues have different parameters, such as different relaxation times. To develop the MBST\u00ae technology, these parameters were studied in order to develop matching treatment frequencies for each individual tissue. In a first study by the Sports University Cologne, MRI scans showed that thickness, volume and area of cartilage in the knee increased after MBST\u00ae therapy.1 <\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The basis of the MBST\u00ae treatment effect<\/h3>

Research was intensified to understand these positive changes. Early on, a positive effect on cell regeneration was obvious when experiments showed increased proliferation of cartilage and bone cells by more than 200%.2 Over time, further studies have confirmed effects on the circadian cell rhythm, inflammatory reactions and pain signalling pathways, among others.3-7 Basic research is an essential part of the development of MBST therapy until this day with new studies being started continuously. <\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Research and further development <\/h3>

Clinical studies from practical application also confirm the positive effect of MBST\u00ae therapy with a success rate of 80-85%.8 Patients report reduced pain, improved mobility and easier coping with activities in everyday life. The approval as certified medical device in accordance with EU regulations by the notified body T\u00dcV S\u00dcD requires continuous proof of efficacy and safety of the MBST magnetic resonance therapy devices. <\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The future of MBST\u00ae <\/h3>

The knowledge gained in research and practical application is used for the development of new device generations, broadening the scope of conditions for which MBST\u00ae may be applicated.
